Metal weight calculation

Calculating the weight of any type of metal product: beams, profiles of various types, bars, tubes, pipes, sheets, etc. is similar to that of any other type of material. We need to know the volume of the metal and its density. Multiplying the two gives us the resulting metal weight.

In the metal weight calculator above we have pre-entered the densities of many commonly used metals. Selecting a material from the list will automatically fill in its density. However, you can always enter a custom density.

⚠️ Common mistake: Confuse "steel" with "metal". The two are not synonyms!

Types of metal products supported

Our steel weight calculator supports different types of products, as described below.

🔵 Round metal bar

Requires diameter and length.

🟦 Square/rectangular bar

Requires width, height, length.

⬡ Hexagonal bar

Requires width (across flats) and length.

📄 Metal sheet

Requires length, width, thickness.

🔄 Metal tubing

Requires outer diameter, thickness, length.

▬ Rectangular profile

Requires width, height, thickness, length.

📐 L-profile

Requires width, height, thickness, length.

🟧 U-profile (C-channel)

Multiple measurements required.

🏗️ I/H-profile

Multiple measurements required.

🔠 T-profile
